Desk Setup
We're about to move from Virginia back to North Carolina, so I wanted to showcase my current desk setup for posterity. Here's what it looks like:

These are the details:
- Desk β Ikea Lagkapten 78x23" tabletop w/ Alex drawers
- Computer β M1 2020 MacBook Air
- Keyboard β Magic Keyboard
- Mouse β Logitech Mx Master 2s
- Mousepad β SteelSeries Black Gaming Mousepad
- USB Hub β Anker 555 USB-C Hub
- Monitor β HP EliteDisplay E243 23.8-inch Monitor Silver
- Laptop Stand β Rain Design mStand in space gray
- Lamp β I have no idea where this is from
- Headphones β Sony WH-1000XM4
- Tablet β iPad mini (6th generation) w/ Apple Pencil & Zugu Case
- Podcast Mic β Shure Mv7+ Podcast Dynamic Microphone
- Mic Stand β Rode DS2 Mic Stand
- Water Bottle β 21oz HydroFlask
- Coaster β Custom-made leather coaster from Madi's dad
- Cat bed β Love's Cabin Round Donut Cat & Dog Cushion Bed, 20 in
- Cat β Millie
I've always run my setup with a laptop, and I've also been using a monitor as a second screen for the last six years or so. When we move I'm debating on whether or not I want to go to a single screen setup, which would be powered by the laptop, but in a closed position, with a bigger and wider main monitor that's front and center. Still TBD.
I love the Magic Keyboard and the typing experience you get in general from Apple products. It's nice that whether I'm using the desk setup or taking the laptop on the road I get a consistent typing experience. This keyboard has lasted for years now and has prevented me from stumbling down the mechanical keyboard rabbit hole.
I also like having my microphone off to the side and behind the monitor. It keeps the desk clean and uncluttered when I'm not using it. The Rode DS2 mic stand is extremely strong and lets me get whatever mic placement I need when recording record videos or podcastsβwithout having a big mic arm in the shot.
The desk itself is probably a bit longer than I need, but I quickly figured out it was a great spot to put a bed for Millie. Almost every afternoon she hops up here and sleeps while I work. Before this bed, she would sleep in a cat tower that's behind this setup. She's a clingy cat, so having her own spot in the desk setup is probably warranted. If and when I upgrade the desk I'll probably get something that has a bit more depth.
