Tracking Workouts With The Hevy App

A few weeks ago I logged my 500th workout in an app called Hevy.

Hevy has become one of my favorite apps because it does exactly what I want and nothing else. No distractions, no bugs, no wonky interface—it's just a straightforward workout tracker that helps me get the most out of my lifts.

It's been such a staple of my routine for years that I don't remember what I used to track my progress before. At some point I just used the notes app on my phone, but I also tried a few dedicated workout trackers before realizing how great Hevy was.

I started using it back in March of 2022, and quickly forked over the $75 to get a lifetime subscription and access to all the premium features.

For many, I think the free plan would work just fine. Without paying anything you can log unlimited workouts, create four different programmed routines and you also get some basic measurement tracking and three months of exercise history.

That's enough to get you started tracking your progressive overload. From there you can decide if you want (or need) the ability to create more routines or get more data on your historic workouts.

There are some social components to Hevy—if you're into that sort of thing—but you can also disable that aspect of the app immediately and just use it as your own local, private workout tracker like I do.

If you're trying to get a bit more serious about your lifting, or you just want something that's a little bit more robust than a pen and pad notebook or notes app on your phone I would definitely recommend giving it a try.
