An Empty Gym

There are few things better than walking into the apartment gym and realizing no one else is in there. This has been a great setup for us for the last few years. I've even come around on the smith machine because of it.
Today was a pull day:
-Pull-ups
-Deadlifts
-Seated rows
-DB hammer curls
-Face pulls
-Seated incline DB curls -
Riders Field

A few weeks ago I got a chance to check out Riders Field, which is the home of the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate for the Texas Rangers.
This is one of the coolest and most unique baseball fields I've been to. When I was at the field I felt like I was in a different time and place. It has so much charm and character.
Apparently Riders Field was designed to feel like a "park inside a park" and they absolutely nailed that vibe. The open pavilion setup around the concourse makes you feel like you're walking around a Farmer's Market or something, and then there's a lazy river and water section in right field.
I got a great look at Alabama's Justin Lebron when I was here—which was the point of the trip—but just being able to take in a game was extremely cool and memorable.

Opening Weekend 2026

I traveled out to the Dallas area for the first weekend of college baseball this year. That's become the norm for me since the Shriners Children's College Showdown always has such a loaded field of teams and players.
Globe Life views in the first two photos, and then the third shot is from Grady Emerson's high school. It was nice to get a double header and see the top prep player in the country as well.
Missing from this image collage are photos from Torchy's, which is always a must-visit on this trip. Here's the draft notebook I turned around from this one.

Stopwatch No. 3

My old stopwatch started wearing out last year. I was definitely in need of a new one before I started getting out at games this spring.
I think this is only the third stopwatch I've bought in my nearly 10 years at Baseball America. I would consider that a pretty big win. Always the Accusplit. And always black.
Millie is not sure what she thinks of it.

Winter Storm Fern

The views from outside our apartment this morning after a night of snow from Winter Storm Fern. It's been mostly snow to this point, but more ice is on the way apparently.

Trattoria Villagio

Madi and I celebrated her birthday at our favorite restaurant in Northern Virginia: Trattoria Villagio.
This place is one of our favorite restaurants of all time, and tonight we splurged:
In order:
1 — Arancini
2 — Burrata
3 — Tagliatelle Bolognese (my main)
4 — Rigatoni Alla Vodka (Madi’s main)
5 — Chocolate Soufflé with Vanilla Gelato
6 — The birthday girlShe was glad I pushed for the arancini and I was glad she pushed for the dessert. An 80-grade dinner and restaurant. Cheers.

Nike Cat

Typically shoes are the best things in the orange Nike box. Not today!
I guess Millie is brand loyal just like I am.
-
Nike Christmas

I'm nothing if not brand loyal to Nike.
This year my family gifted me some awesome Nike gear that's going to be great for more running in 2026. The Nike Pegasus running shoe has been a great daily driver for me and the black and white colorway of this Pegasus Plus is so sick.

Sixty Vines

Madi and I got dinner at Sixty Vines with some med school friends. The restaurant had a cool vibe, and a good backdrop for a photo.
Sadly, our trip to New York has ruined me when it comes to pizza. Every slice I've had since just makes me think about how much better L'Industrie is.

New York 2025

Madi and I took a trip up to New York to see friends and eat a lot of food. I think L'Industrie (second photo) is easily the best pizza I've ever had in my life.
The same might be true for Ramen we got at Ippudo (fifth photo), Indian we got at Kebab aur Sharab, and bagels we got from PopUp. We also got a New York chopped cheese from a random bodega, which has been on our list of things to do for a long time.
Apart from food, we watched Wicked on Broadway, walked around Brooklyn and Central Park and saw a comedy show at The Stand.
Having friends show you around the city is far cooler than visiting without any local expertise. Shoutout to Catherine, Jack, Dean, Mari, Vishal and Thom.
